About Us
            	      Music Director/Conductor : Emily Li

Established in 1996, 'Gloves' Handbell is the only community handbell choir in Hong Kong.  The founders, Emily Li, Jennifer Ho and Yasmin Li formed the ‘Gloves’ by purchasing a used set of 3-octaves Schulmerich bells.  The choir has 14 members now, all of them have strong music education and backgrounds.  The mission of the choir is to share with people this 'heavenly' sound and to promote handbell music in Hong Kong through high standard performances and workshops.  The choir now owns a set of 5-octaves Schulmerich handbells, 4-octaves meodychimes and 3-octaves bellplates.

Since establishment, 'Gloves' has given public performances in various venues.  Places include HK Cultural Centre Concert Hall & Foyer, City Hall Theatre, Shouson Theatre, Tsuen Town Hall, HK New Convention Centre, churches, shopping malls and hospitals.  She also received invitations from the Cultural Centre, The Music Office and Radio 4 to perform at various occasions.  Apart from formal performances, Gloves also plays at weddings, private parties, convention, and charity functions.

In order to promote the art of handbell ringing, the choir has organized workshops for students and the public at HK Arts Library, HK International Institute of Music and Hong Kong Baptist University.  The quartet of the choir was featured as guest in TVB's children program to introduce handbells and was invited by RTHK Radio 4 to record its jingle and present a recorded Christmas program on “1815 Joint Schools Christmas Concert” in 1999.  In 2000, the choir was invited by TVB to play at its 33rd anniversary program in November and was featured as guest performing group in the “Youth Music Extravaganza” presented by Music Office.

'Gloves' started to expose itself to international handbell activities in 1998.  Members has participated in the 8th International Handbell Symposium held at the Makuhari Messe, Japan.  They were the first representatives from HK in this symposium.  They rang with over 900 ringers from Japan, USA, UK, Korea, Australia and Canada and gave another performance in the International Handbell Concert in Kobe.  In 2000 & 2002, the full choir has participated in the 9th & 10th Symposium held in Birmingham, UK and Busan, Korea.  The performances in the highlight concerts are highly praised.  Besides performing, 'Gloves' also share HK’s cultural with the overseas friends.
